Deep in the corner of Italy’s boot, over 1000 growers have come together, to bring wine lovers from around the world a true taste of Italian terroir. Cantine San Marzano, established in 1962 focuses on two Puglia mainstays – Primitivo and Negroamaro. The early one (Primitivo) is grown 100m above sea level, in shallow soils where the vines are made to work for their dinner. Deep ruby red with crimson reflections. Rich of mature fruit, cherries and plums, with notes of coffee and black pepper. A full-bodied wine whose 5 years of ageing has helped soften and balance the wine, with a pleasantly lingering aftertaste. Serve this with Italian fare, antipasti is best, and you won’t be disappointed! – Wine Central Tasting Panel
Primitivo is the most popular red grape in Puglia, south east Italy, where it makes big, juicy red wines such as this certified organic one, with its earthy savoury flavours. Good value. – Joelle Thomson, 2016 Vintage.

Meet the maker

Buy any San Marzano product this July and go in the draw to win tickets to Vino Italiano presented by Sapori!*
It’s an afternoon of tasting through Italian wines on Sat 31st August.
San Marzano is a small village in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region. It was in 1962 that 19 winemakers came together and founded Cantine San Marzano in an area that wasn’t at that time a DOC region but would soon be.
It wasn’t until 1996 that the first bottles came out the cellar and this started a new chapter for San Marzano as they began to reach the end consumer.
To this day San Marzano embody the collision of tradition and contemporary winemaking. They are driven to “make a wine just like the one of our fathers did,” and they achieve this by producing wines that are a celebration of viticulture and the history of the land.
