Tempranillo/Merlot blend from Spain
While most of us think Tempranillo when we hear Spain, do you think of Merlot as well? Merlot is one of those international grape varieties that does well in most corners of the globe, Spain included. It brings a softness to blends as well as the typical plum and black cherry notes we’ve come to expect and here it’s no different. While Tempranillo certainly dominates (think cherries, dark chocolate, spice and tannin), Merlot helps to soften it out and gives the wine a delicious, long finish. Try with hard cheese, or some Spanish fare – paella anyone?
