“Deliciously drinkable Australian red made from the famous trio of grapes that go into some of the best value wines in the world – Cotes du Rhone from the sunny Mediterranean. D’Arenberg is one of Australia’s best known and highest quality wineries because every single red is pressed through a basket press. This provides  depth of flavour and character. This tasty red is consistently good drinking, especially great in value thanks to its affordable price tag.” – 4 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer
The 2016 Stump Jump GSM shows generous fruit characters mixed with savoury nuances, subtle oak and fine, gritty tannin.

Grenache is the hero, with its lovely rhubarb, blueberry and white pepper notes. The Shiraz brings darker fruits, plums, fennel and earth along with a more robust texture and tannin structure which fill out the mid palate. Finally, the splash of Mourvedre adds exotic dried herb, lavender, iodine and cured meat notes along with a certain elegance and mineral tannin that draws the wine to a lingering finsh.

Balanced, pure with underlying complexities, and utterly delicious.
The name ‘Stump Jump’ pays homage to a significant South Australian invention – the Stump Jump plough. As well as clearing the land around McLaren Vale, it was adopted worldwide in the late 19th century because of its ability to ride over stumps and gnarled roots, saving valuable time and energy.

Description

Meet the maker

“Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member, Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery.”
D’Arenberg have made a big mark on Australian wine having come from originally planting 9 acres of Shiraz to being one of the founding members of Australia’s First Families of Wine and a global name for Aussie wines. Their winemaking is surrounded in tradition with Chester Osborne continuing to use the basket pressing technique to create distinctive wines with a true sense of place.
Nowadays d’Arenberg is not only recognised for their wines but for their vineyard experience especially the d’Arenberg Cube. Described as being created to “entice and excite the senses” the Cube is a sensory and engaging experience paralleling the experience of enjoying their wines.
